Michael Marcil

Michael Marcil is a visionary business developer who brings more than 25 years of experience in building innovative business ventures. Through his career Mr. Marcil has been involved in starting and growing many successful ventures. Mr. Marcil is currently the CEO of EMG. Mr. Marcil is also the majority owner of Bakken Financial Inc. www.bakkenfinancial.com, the parent company of EMG. Under his leadership the company has expanded to include over $50MM of investments that includes Real Estate, Technology, Media, Retail, Restaurants and other Energy related businesses.

From 2002 to 2010 Mr. Marcil served as the CEO of The Marcil Group Inc. Under his leadership the company was involved in the development, financing and management of more than 40 different development partnerships that comprise over 1,100 residential rental apartment units and over 300,000 sq. ft. of commercial space in California, Louisiana, North Dakota, Minnesota, and South Dakota. The net assets of the portfolio exceeded $100MM in assets. Mr Marcil was one of the first apartment developers to enter the Bakken in 2007.

Prior to founding The Marcil Group Inc. Mr. Marcil served as the senior vice president of business development and member of the executive team for Valassis Communications (NYSE: VCI). Prior to Valassis, he served as the vice president of sales for Food.com, where he developed a national sales force of 65 full-time sales executives that generated over $20MM in annual revenue and helped raised over $135MM from Accel Partners, McDonald’s Corp, and the The Chicago Tribune Venture Group.

In 2007 Mr. Marcil was recognized by Forum Communication as one of 40 individuals under the age of 40 years who had made a significant impact on in the regional. In 2006 Mr. Marcil’s property management company “Marcil Management” was recognized by Intuit Corp “the makers of quickbooks” as one of the most technologically advanced property management companies in the United States. In 1997, he was accepted into the Young Entrepreneurs Organization (YEO) for entrepreneurs under 35 years of age whose companies achieved annual
sales in excess of $1MM.

Michael received a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of North Dakota in 1993. Mr. Marcil is also involved in a variety of non-profit causes and boards. Most recently Mr. Marcil founded The Empowerment Project a nonprofit operating foundation based in Fargo, North Dakota.

Dan Austin is a 19-year veteran in the digital media and technology industries. He has a proven track record for building digital marketing, media solutions, sales and web development teams, producing strong revenue stories for start-ups, mid-stage media and fortune 50 companies. Mr. Austin led some of the most innovative interactive media, digital marketing, and software development teams of the Internet’s first two decades. Dan also brings with him a wealth of knowledge in digital sales team development, digital marketing services, software platform development, recruitment services technology, general marketing and branding.

Dan has contributed breakthrough revenue throughout his career for his clients. Some of his career highlights are growing HomeDepot.com from $700M to $1.2B, delivering $40M in new revenue for Interpublic Group (NYSE: IPG) – Geomentum, creating $28M in new digital revenue for TMP Directional Marketing/Monster.com, and leading a specialized business development team that delivered $100M in new revenue for Vivendi/Universal.

Over his career, Dan and the teams of people that have worked with him have helped to contribute over $2 billion in revenue for clients from the various digital marketing programs they have helped to deploy. Cas Johnson is Production Director at Energy Media Group and Adjunct Professor at Minnesota State University, Moorhead. She’s passionate about creating beautiful, technical interfaces and websites that people love to use. She has a decade’s worth of direct experience building online presences for regional, national, and international businesses of almost every type including B to B (commercial signage, manufacturing, agriculture, wholesale, etc.) B to C (restaurants, bars, salons, retail, hotels, finance, professional services, construction, health & fitness services, etc.), the arts, non-profits, government and education.

Cas brings a unique skill set of development savvy rooted in design. A self-taught student of the web for over a decade, she drafts online strategies that anchor clients with a definitive web presence. Her unique skill set allows her to integrate award-winning, user-friendly designs with cutting-edge technologies and she has the experience to promote online messages through email marketing, blogging and social media. She graduated with a bachelor of fine arts in illustration from Minnesota State University, Moorhead.

Eric Dallmann oversees all the creative aspects of Energy Media Group from general creative aesthetics to strategic brand strategy. Eric studied art and design in Florence University of the Arts, Italy and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications with an emphasis in Advertising. Originally from Bloomington, MN, he enjoys going back to the Minneapolis metro area to catch up with friends and family. Eric also enjoys painting, traveling, sketching and visiting museums.

Mary Schimke is Editor at Energy Media Group. She brings to the table 15 years of teaching, editing, and management experience. She graduated in 1999 from Minot State University with a BS in Education and a major in English. Mary is a recent graduate of Southern New Hampshire University where she received a MA in English. She has worked as a freelance editor for several independent clients in a variety of disciplines.

Ashley graduated in 2013 from Minnesota State University Moorhead with a degree in Mass Communications emphasis in Public Relations. She has an eclectic array of previous positions ranging from a fitness instructor, freelance photographer, bartender and is currently a Social Media Account Manager. Ashley resides in Fargo, ND with her husband, Andrew and Golden Retriever, Mya.

Benjamin Buchanan was born and raised in Fargo, North Dakota. He is a 2015 Minnesota State University, Moorhead graduate, boasting a degree in Art with an emphasis in Graphic Design. Special areas of interest within design include illustration and animation. Creating a design and making it move has always been a thrilling problem-solving experience for Ben. Outside of work, Ben enjoys hobbies like photography, skateboarding, writing and collaborating with others on new projects.

Taylor Ganser was born and raised in Fargo, North Dakota. He graduated from Minnesota State University, Moorhead with a BS in Graphic Communications with an emphasis in Multimedia Design. He also received a minor in Marketing. While he has the ability to design on most platforms, he found a specialization in front-end web development. Taylor had the opportunity to expand his education with a six month study abroad in the United Kingdom where he studied design, marketing and audio engineering. Outside of work he enjoys traveling, spending time with family, music and sports of any kind.

Scott Wagendorf has teamed up with leading brands to develop advertising and integrated marketing programs that resonate with consumers across multiple platforms. From print campaigns launching programming on Nickelodeon… to developing newsletters for American Express… to ground-up B2B website development, he understands the importance of connecting brands with their audiences wherever they are.

Following a 20-year love affair with New York City, the native North Dakotan returned to Fargo to get in touch with his inner “Marge Gunderson.”

Coming from a small farm in rural North Dakota, hard work and the need for accomplishment has been instilled into Ryan. His first passion included touring the nation playing music and networking, but decided ultimately that having a family and stability was more gratifying. A big part of Ryan’s love for the band life was working with the record label in helping it expand and connect to listeners. In 2014, he graduated from NDSU with a degree in Marketing.
Apart from playing guitar and singing with his wife, Ryan loves to spend time with his kids enjoying the outdoors, playing sports and socializing with friends and family.

Mr. Rome has a combined experience of over 15 years in sales, marketing and hospitality. Previously, Mr Rome was part owner in Echelon Media and Digital Media Consulting, both located in Fargo, ND. He graduated the University of Mary with a degree in Business Management.

Anthony is passionate about marketing and branding--both online and offline. He’s immersed himself with online marketing for the past decade and has successfully built his reputation specifically with social media marketing, media buying, web design and strategic planning. He facilitates and builds online communities, with a primary focus on engagement paired with an emphasis on reach and frequency. He enjoys talking and teaching what he knows and constantly has his finger on the pulse of change in the industry.

In 2014, he was nominated as one of Prairie Business Magazine’s 40 Under 40.

Robert Olson is no stranger to innovation. As creator of multiple startup companies for niche markets, he’s constantly working and changing gears to adjust to the changing business marketplace. In addition to his current role at Energy Media Group, Mr. Olson most recently created the startup Digital Technologies, Inc. for merchant services, tablet point of sales systems, text message marketing and software for businesses to manage and monitor their online business reputation, social media marketing, and listing distribution.

With more than 20 years every aspect of the business world, Mr. Olson has had his hand in sales, finance, management, business development, merchant services and software sales and service. He specializes in Government Finance, Payroll, Fiscal Reporting, Funding Appropriations, Travel Claim Processing, ATMs, Foreign Funds, Dealer Bills, Collections, Per Diem, Customer Services, Active Duty for Training Processing, Fund Management, and Cash Management. He attended Valley City State University and was active in the U.S. Navy from 1989 – 1996.

Miss Ellie May Clampett, the English Bulldog, is EMG’s mascot, designated drooler and Chief Happiness Officer. Ever since her arrival in 2014, she has been turning the world on with her smile. Whenever she visits the office, Ellie makes her rounds, greeting each team member with a lick or two; she instinctively knows who needs a little extra TLC that day. And just like the rest of the staff, Ellie can’t resist a good belly laugh...or rub.
